FAQs
Can ADHD be treated online?
Healthcare providers use the same official medical guidelines for ADHD management during in-person and virtual appointments, so it is possible to treat this condition online. At MEDvidi, you can see a medical provider through video calls for a detailed assessment and individualized treatment. As long as you are deemed a fit candidate for our ADHD evaluation/management program you should be good to go!
If you have any general health issues coexisting with ADHD, please follow up with your PCP as we can only provide mental health evaluations/management in our program.
Who can prescribe ADHD medication in Illinois?
In Illinois, ADHD medication can be prescribed by Illinois-licensed healthcare providers, including:
- Primary care physicians (PCPs)
- Psychiatrists
- Physician assistants (PAs)
- Nurse practitioners (NPs)
Note that if you are already receiving mental health care in another facility we recommend that you follow up with your already established provider/facility. Unlike seeking a second opinion, seeing multiple providers to receive multiple prescriptions constitutes “Doctor shopping” and it is an unlawful practice. Documentation from previous/current healthcare provider may be required if deemed necessary
Can ADHD medications be prescribed virtually?
ADHD medications can be prescribed online if deemed necessary for a patient. The decision to prescribe medication or choose another treatment option is made individually in each case, based on a detailed assessment of symptoms, health history, medication history, and other aspects. There are also specific state laws and regulations for online prescribing of ADHD medication, including controlled substances.
Please be aware, that if your level of care is above our provided (e.g. highly complex health/mental health history, patients already being prescribed controlled substances by other practices, alcohol or drug dependency), that may deem you a better fit patient for a face-to-face evaluation/management other than our practice.
Can telehealth prescribe controlled substances in IL?
Yes, healthcare providers licensed in Illinois can prescribe controlled substances, including ADHD medications through telehealth, if deemed appropriate. Note that an individual treatment plan for ADHD may or may not include medication, and scheduling an appointment does not guarantee receiving a prescription—the decision is made based on the assessment, as these are not fee for prescription encounters.
